Cynthia McMullen

Cynthia has been relieving pain since 1999.  She is one of the creative minds behind the Massage Therapy Program at the Oriental Healing Arts School of Massage Therapy.  Cynthia has been teaching introductory Oriental medicine classes for more than 10 years with a special emphasis on understanding Traditional Taoist Five Elements, Traditional Qi/Energy Healing and Medical QiGong.

She brings to her students her vast knowledge and experience in specialty techniques such as energetic assessments, auricular therapy, cupping, and moxa therapy. Complementing these skills she teaches the advanced Oriental Bodywork series including Points and Meridians and Theory of Oriental Medicine, followed by an experiential Lab class where her students go through the process of customizing an Oriental medicine based bodywork treatment which they both give and receive throughout the course, receiving noticeable healing results.

She is the creator and instructor of the Traditional Taoist Five Element Nutrition course, teaching how to heal using whole foods as medicine and cooking with Chinese herbs. This includes but is not limited to weight loss, weak digestive system, candida type symptoms, safe cleansing diets to heal the internal organs, and mysterious aliments such as lack of appetite and digestive discomforts especially when conventional medicine is unable to determine a specific diagnosis.

She is our expert in using the highest quality organic therapeutic grade essential oils for internal and external applications with formulas based in traditional Oriental medicine principals. These customized blends are used to balance and heal the body mind and soul. Cynthia is Internationally Certified in Aromatherapy by the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. Cynthia thoroughly enjoys taking traditional Chinese herbs to the next level by creating wonderful and tasty ways to incorporate them into your diet with healing soups, salads, healthy wines and teas.  She has been to China twice (1999 & 2002) to study Tui Na Acupressure Massage and Tai Chi.

Having studied extensively with Master Healer Tao Shih Pei Wo Lun she previously taught Tai Chi classes to the community for 5 years and since has taught Qi Gong classes for the past 10 years.  Cynthia is the author of “Three Centers Meditation:  A Beginner’s Guide to Meditation” published in 2008.

Cynthia sees clients for a large variety of health situations.  She provides consultations and treatments based in Traditional Taoist Medical QiGong, Massage Therapy, Five Element Nutrition and Herbs, and Essential Oils.  She is also very proud to have many wonderful students that accept her referrals.

Michele Keck

Michele has been relieving pain since 2003. She is the lead instructor for the hands-on Table Massage class with the Oriental Healing Arts School of Massage Therapy. She also teaches the advanced Thai Yoga Massage course.

Michele is full of knowledge, fun and experience when it comes to Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage. She enjoys doing workshops that include Yoga positions for common aliments and Two Person Yoga.

Working with clients who have shoulder pain, back pain, and headaches are her expertise. She uses personalized treatments to help relieve your pain areas.

Thai Yoga Massage, Qigong, Tui Na Acupressure Massage, Herbs, Yoga and Medical Qigong Energy work are the modalities that she likes to incorporate into her practice.

Lee Ann Benko

Lee Ann Benko is the fabulous director of our "Excellent Children" program which provides Meditation, Tai Chi, and pediatric massage to children ages 6-14.

She teaches the Tui Na course in the Acupuncture Program, and also teaches workshops in Tui Na Acupressure Massage and Massage for Infants and Children.

Lee Ann has a private practice in massage therapy, Tui Na Acupressure massage, Thai Yoga massage, medical qigong, and pediatric masage. Besides working with children, she is exceptional at relieving chronic pain in adults.

Arleene Banks

Alreene has been relieving pain since 2003. She has more than 30 years experience in the Western medical field and is the Anatomy instructor for the massage school. She also teaches hands-on techniques.

Arleene teaches a weekly QiGong class featuring Smiling Heart QiGong and Ba Duan Jin (8 Precious Treasures). Her vibrant health and attitude provide an inspiring role model for many.

Karen Eckman

Karen Eckman has been relieving pain since 2006. She believes continuing education and practicing Taoist Arts is foremost in her life and in her practice as a therapist. She is currently studying Chinese Herbology, Medical QiGong, Tui Na Acupressure, and Thai Massage and is working towards becoming a Master Massage Therapist.

Karen provides excellent acupressure reflexology of the hands and feet and is currently teaching a workshop series on these topics. She also employs Tui Na acupressure massage which she has studied in both the U.S. and Beijing, China. Karen is adept at the Gua Sha technique for relieving pain, stagnation, and muscular knots.

In addition, she is studying Tai Chi, Yoga, and Oriental Healing Dance as compliments to her daily practice. Karen is also an adventurous outdoor enthusiast who loves to ski, hike, garden and fish. Susette Jenkins

Susette has been relieving pain since 2006. She is an Oriental Healing Therapist who excels in Tui Na Acupressure Massage, Thai Yoga Massage, Swedish relaxation massage, and Traditional Taoist Qi/Energy Healing.

She specializes in resolving pain by using postural analysis to relieve pain in the wrist, elbow, shoulder, neck, low back, knees and ankles.  Carpal Tunnel pain is one of Susette’s fortes. She was instrumental in developing and teaching the excellent chair massage pain relief techniques provided at The Oriental Healing Arts Center.

By combining massage with her Oriental medicine background, Susette enjoys treating internal imbalances that contribute to fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, and women’s gynecological issues.

Susette integrates several specialties into her practice, including Traditional Taoist Five Elements Nutrition, therapeutic grade essential oils and exotic healing modalities such as tuning forks, hot stones, moxa, gua sha and cupping.

She has studied in China with the Beijing Sports Olympic massage team and will return in 2010 to study in a traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

She has avidly studied Tai Chi and Qi Gong with Master Healer Tao Shih Pei Wo Lun since 2007 and has greatly benefited from his influence and guidance.

She currently teaches weekly community Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Yoga classes and is also available for private sessions.

An exuberant teacher, she is the primary physiology instructor for the massage school and has assisted in teaching many other classes such as: table massage, chair massage, Tui Na Acupressure massage, business and ethics, Medical Qi Gong and Tai Chi in the Tai Chi instructors training program.

Brittany Russell

Brittany has been relieving pain since 2008.  She enjoys doing Swedish massage, acupressure, and both Tui Na and Thai Yoga massage.  Brittany has also earned quite the reputation for providing an amazingly wonderful chair massage!

Currently studying energy healing in Medical QiGong, Brittany believes in the healing capacity of touch in massage and of harmonizing ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually.  With a wonderful way of brightening up your day, she enjoys working with clients that need some nurturing mind-body-spirit support and are interested in increasing their own self-value and inner happiness.

Laura is dedicated to healing, wellness, and working toward becoming a master level massage therapist with advanced courses in Chinese Herbology, Medical Qigong, Tuina Acupressure, and Thai Yoga Massage. Laura has also completed courses in Traditional Taoist Five Element Nutrition.

Currently Laura is the assistant instructor for both the Physiology and Traditional Taoist Five Element Nutrition courses and has assisted teaching other classes for the Oriental Healing Arts School of Massage Therapy such as Chair Massage, Business & Ethics, and Points & Meridians along with the accompanying  Points & Meridian Massage Lab.

Laura enjoys incorporating Swedish Massage, Tuina Acupressure, and Thai Yoga Massage techniques into her massage practice to create specifically tailored sessions to best suit her clients individual needs. Mary Mumma

Mary has been relieving pain since 2006. She has worked as a nurse for 37 years, and added Massage Therapy as part of her career. She has spent a large part of her career working with the elderly.

Mary has been our very popular Tai Chi for Seniors instructor for more than 7 years, and the senior crowd is one of her favorite specialties.

She is certified in Reflexology of the feet and also practices Auricular Therapy (reflexology of the ears) and hand Reflexology. She practices Comfort Touch Massage for the frail and elderly. This is a gentle, light pressure, acupressure type of massage that helps balance the body, also relieving general discomfort.

She also studied acupressure massage, included in her studies at OHAC. Mary is trained in Massage for People Living With Cancer through Providence Hospital, and offers massage to cancer treatment patients at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

She is a Healing Touch Apprentice (Healing Touch Level 4) and practices at Anchorage Senior Center Monthly. Healing Touch is a type of energy work that evolved from Therapeutic Touch started by nurses during the 1970's. She is also trained in Reiki Level 1 and has over 120 hours training in Polarity Therapy (both are also energy work to balance B/M/S (body/mind/spirit).

She loves to integrate these modalities in her massage sessions. Mary is currently enrolled in Cynthia McMullen's Essential Oils Certification Course and will be adding this wholistic modality to what she will be offering her clients.

Mary practices Qigong daily for self cultivation and to keep balanced so that she can better assist her clients on their road to health and well being. She has seriously studied Tai Chi and Qigong since the Spring of 2000 at OHAC.

Paul has been relieving pain since 2006. After some wonderful travel experiences, Paul has finally settled back to Alaska and his putting his Massage Therapy skills to great use.
